Neil Hayward and Robert H. Stymeist

Weather

May opened with a period of cool weather. The high temperature on May 4 was just 46 degrees. Warmer temperatures arrived on May 10, when a week of good weather produced a high of 85 degrees on May 12, coinciding with the first day of significant migratory movement. It rained frequently throughout the month with 13 days of measurable precipitation. Despite the frequency, the total rainfall for the month in Boston was 2.25 inches, about an inch below the average for May. The Memorial Day weekend was pleasant with a high of 86 degrees on May 28.
