March 2024 was most notable for its 17 days of precipitation, all of which was rain in Boston. Normally, the city records an average of 7.8 inches of snow for the month of March. A total of 8.94 inches of rain fell in Boston during March, well above the March normal of 4.17 inches. A storm on Saturday March 23 brought heavy rain and snow throughout Massachusetts. In western areas, 1–3 inches of snow fell early before turning to rain. Rainfall amounts for Holyoke were 2.82 inches; for Northampton, 2.67 inches; for New Bedford, 1.3 inches; and for Worcester, 1.9 inches. Some rivers saw minor flooding. The Taunton River in Bridgewater and the Assabet River in Maynard were especially affected. The average temperature for March in Boston was 42 degrees, with a high of 59 on March 17.
