Jason Forbes and Robert H. Stymeist

Weather

July 2024 was hot and humid. Boston averaged 75.4 degrees, with five days of 90 degrees or higher. The high temperature for the month was 95 on July 15–16. A long stretch of temperatures at least in the 80s accompanied by high humidity ran from July 3 through July 18. Boston declared a heat emergency for July 15–17 and the National Weather Service predicted the heat index would reach 102 degrees around metro Boston. Rain was noted on 10 days during the month, although only totaling 1.39 inches, which is nearly 1.5 inches less than normal for July. Hurricane Chris passed our coast well offshore on July 11, producing possible rip currents in the Westport-South Dartmouth area.
